This Thy Day vs. The Day of the Lord
Palm Sunday is comparable to the Day of the Lord in at least two ways. First, Jesus Christ descended from the Mount of Olives in Luke 19:37 on the first Palm Sunday, and will also descend from it at His coming in Zechariah 14:1-4. And, second, Jesus pronounced against the nation of Israel and the City of Jerusalem destruction in Luke 19:42-44, which was fulfilled in 70 AD when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and the Herod's Temple, and destruction is also clearly seen in this future setting. Zephaniah 3:6-8 states, " have cut off the nations: their towers are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, that there is none inhabitant. 7 I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings. 8 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy." So, the Mt. of Olives and destruction is clearly in focus in both contexts.
